Noah on the ice

Noah is a fast skater and a hard hitter.

At the level of hockey he is playing (with the 10 year old age group) he is quickly learning skills. He plays offense and has scored many hat tricks.

Sometimes he has a quiet moment at home with Harry Potter.

Zach and the Hat Trick Stick

Zach says he will be a better player now that he has the new hockey stick. Up to now he has been using different sticks but this one should do the trick - the hat trick we hope.

These pictures cannot show how fast and hard Zach skates on the ice. His specialty seems to be getting possession at one end of the ice and streaking to the other end to try for a goal or an assist. We have seen him play defense and offense, usually at the center to start all face offs.

We can easily find him on the ice with his easily identified socks.

La Crescent Minnesota Hockey Arena

A view inside the arena at the start of a game. That's Zach at the center as referee.

Zach starts the game with a face off. He blows the whistle, drops the puck and gets out of the way.

This Arena is the gathering spot for all the hockey players in this small town of 6000 plus. Many other towns, some from more that 50 miles away compete here also. The arena is usually busy nights and all day Saturday and Sunday with games or practices for different age groups - even in the summer. We were able to go to several of Zach's and Noah's games. They both made us proud.

Kyra, our 7 year old dancer

The Dancer

The Imp

Bright and cheery, Kyra played hockey for a year but finally decided dancing was more her style. She much prefers the pretty dancing dresses to the hockey equipment - bulky skates, pants, gloves, helmets and sticks, not to mention the cold ice.

She has beautiful eyes and a smile that will charm anyone. She likes coloring pictures and puzzles and is full of energy all day long.

Alicia Runs Her First Triathlon

6:48 a.m. Alicia gets ready to enter the water

Biking through Manhattan

She doesn't even looked tired yet!!!
July 22, 2007 - New York City. Congratulations to Alicia who completed her first triathlon in record time. Her time of 3 hours and 32 minutes and 36 seconds was 30 minutes under what she had been hoping for. The first leg was a 1 mile swim in the Hudson River, then a 28 mile bike ride along the Hudson River followed by a 6 mile run through Central Park. Her dedication in training for many months paid off as well as her efforts to raise money ($3000!!!) for Cancer Research. Well done.

Welcome to this blog about the real winners in our family!

We have lots of sport and game oriented members of our family and this will keep you all up to date on their progress. Look here for some exciting things that have already happened and for the good stuff to come.
There will be lots of information about our triathlete, Alicia Mezritz who lives in New York City, Michele and Chris Dever who live in Connecticut (between world travel, biking and fishing they are very busy), and Zachary Salow, Noah Salow, and Kyra Salow, grandchildren who live in La Crescent, Minnesota. Zach and Noah are very active hockey players and Kyra is involved in dancing. Craig Resnick in California keeps in shape with Aikido workouts regularly.

The name of this blog, The Hat-trick Stick comes from the hockey term 'hat trick' which means scoring three goals in a game. Zach has a new hockey stick and we are calling it the hat trick stick in hopes he scores a lot of hat tricks. In fact, first time out with his new stick, he made the first goal for his team in a game they eventually won 5 - 2. Keep tuned in for more and photos.
