La Crescent Summer 2008

Sports and the outdoors are all the summer activities they need. Noah is fearless about jumping on his bike.

When Noah gives Kyra a ride, they live at the top of a hill, so it is downhill all the way.

This is Zach's second year as a referee. Noah began referring in July and on his second game he was paired with Zach to referree a game at the Arena. I think Zach let Noah do most of the work.

Zach also has grown into new skates. How happy he looks to be trying them on.

Capital of Texas Triathlon

Memorial Day weekend, 2008 Alicia participated in the Capital of Texas Triathlon.
Her mom, sister and aunt and uncle watched as she swam 1 mile in Town Lake, biked 28 through Austin and then ran 6 miles in downtown Austin.
Before 7:AM and she is ready to go.

Here, her sister Michele watches as Alicia heads down Congress Avenue and across the bridge on her last lap.

My sister and I saw her running only once, just as she approached the finish line.

Alicia did a great job and finished her second triathlon in 3 hours 40 minutes.

More Honors to Noah and Zach

Zach sang in a concert at Christmas time. Many other area schools participated and the La Crescent High School had a very elite choir. Zach also played on the Varsity Hockey Team but the Juniors and Seniors got more ice time than he did. He will be on the ice more next year as he is going to hockey camp in North Dakota and will be coaching a youth hockey team this summer.

Noah made the Western Minnesota Hockey Elite Classic hockey teacm and played outside of Minneapolis. He had two assists and one goal. He was a happy camper although he got serious for this picture. Noah is a fifth grader in LaCrescent, Minnesota.

Keeping in Shape

Zach has lots of energy. This game was played 30 minutes after he just finished a one - hour hockey game.

Good timing by both Zach and Grandpa Gary who took all the pictures.

Summer Hockey is almost over. To keep in shape for the upcoming hockey season, Zach is playing soccer. He does well in whatever he attempts.

Noah on the ice

Noah is a fast skater and a hard hitter.

At the level of hockey he is playing (with the 10 year old age group) he is quickly learning skills. He plays offense and has scored many hat tricks.

Sometimes he has a quiet moment at home with Harry Potter.

Zach and the Hat Trick Stick

Zach says he will be a better player now that he has the new hockey stick. Up to now he has been using different sticks but this one should do the trick - the hat trick we hope.

These pictures cannot show how fast and hard Zach skates on the ice. His specialty seems to be getting possession at one end of the ice and streaking to the other end to try for a goal or an assist. We have seen him play defense and offense, usually at the center to start all face offs.

We can easily find him on the ice with his easily identified socks.

La Crescent Minnesota Hockey Arena

A view inside the arena at the start of a game. That's Zach at the center as referee.

Zach starts the game with a face off. He blows the whistle, drops the puck and gets out of the way.

This Arena is the gathering spot for all the hockey players in this small town of 6000 plus. Many other towns, some from more that 50 miles away compete here also. The arena is usually busy nights and all day Saturday and Sunday with games or practices for different age groups - even in the summer. We were able to go to several of Zach's and Noah's games. They both made us proud.
